Halloween 2016

Growing up, Halloween was fun. Going door to door and getting free candy while dressing up in an awesome costume. There definitely does have to be a cut off age though. I'd say you start at age 2 and go till about 14 years old. I trick or treated until around that age and then stopped. Several years later I went to handing out candy to the little kids at my Grandparent's house. Now, I usually post on social media and such that I hate Halloween. The reason for this is because I'm in the paranormal field. Now, it's not the paranormal field's fault in any way. It's actually just the opposite. You all know what the paranormal field is. Going into peoples' homes and businesses and helping them to feel more comfortable at their property if the possibility of paranormal activity is there. Sometimes around this time of year, there are those select teenagers that decide that instead of going to a "entertainment" haunted house, they want to see if they can get the real thing, so the trespass, or at least try to, and end up getting caught. Sometimes these stories reach the newspaper. Sometimes they don't. It's very much preferred that they don't hit the newspaper. This means that the public doesn't get to know about the incident, and there are no negatives thoughts about the paranormal field. These incidents don't just occur during the Halloween season, but they definitely do spike during it. A few years after I started in the paranormal field, I still liked Halloween. It wasn't as much fun, being a grown man, but I didn't have any dislike for it. Then a local newspaper ran a story of a couple of teenagers getting caught trespassing while trying to enter an allegedly haunting location. I was only about 19 or 20 at the time, so I felt especially affected by this story. The story wasn't trashing the field in any way. It probably just gave a negative thought toward us to some readers. Now, going through the years, today I thought to myself. Why do I still not like Halloween? I haven't read a story like that in the newspaper for years. Then I'm back to liking Halloween again. Then shit hits the fan a couple hours later, and I start to dislike Halloween again. Was it a story in the newspaper? No. It was a news segment posted online. Halloween morning a local news station did a story on a local paranormal team at a location that is claimed to be "haunted" by them. Now, any other paranormal team doing this segment could have kept my faith in the Halloween season strong (well, except for one other one). The team that the media chose has a terrible reputation in the paranormal field, and also with a portion of their clients. The only people that they really have a good reputation with is their followers, and that's only because their followers don't any better and don't realize that treating this field mostly as an entertainment venue is not right at all and is so not the right reason to be in this field. The issue is that there is no regulations for rules in this field. Each team founder is completely free to create whatever rules they want for their team and just basically to run there team however they want, whether or not others believe it to be right or wrong. I believe there is a certain way to run a paranormal team and that there are essential rules that all teams should abide by. There is no "paranormal law" if you feel my drift. There's no way in hell the government would step in because that's just silly, what with everything else the government has to worry about. Only thing that could happen would be a national paranormal governance board that sets rules for paranormal teams that someone in the field could create. Those that apply and fit the guidelines and rules would be posted on the website with a seal of approval for their website. This way the client could study how the NPGB works and know that teams that are posted on their website are safe and approved to investigate abiding by the NPGB guidelines. Only thing is that paranormal teams still would have every right to operate outside of board approval.

Well enough of that talk. Let's talk about my Halloween. I handed out candy as usual at my Grandparent's house. It was so cute to see all the little kids dressed up in costumes. They all smiled and said "trick or treat" and "thank you". The youngest kid I saw was about 2, and old kid I saw was probably about 13 or 14. I have seen some older in the past come and get candy. I didn't see any this year and told my Grandpa that it was probably because it was getting boring for them and they probably realized that it was so much easier to just go to the store and buy their own damn candy.

That's my Halloween!
